Specify what the finished part needs to do
A metal part can look correct on screen and still need information that is missing from the drawing. Before quoting, identify the material, thickness, finished dimensions and any features that must fit another component. Clear requirements help the cutting job match the part you actually need.
At Shug in Mooroolbark, Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, we cut mild steel up to 10 mm, stainless steel up to 3 mm and aluminium up to 2 mm. See our metal laser cutting capabilities before preparing your enquiry.
Quality details to discuss before cutting
Important dimensions and fit
Tell us which dimensions or features are important to the assembly. If your design needs a specific tolerance, include it with the enquiry and ask whether it can be met. A general statement about laser cutting precision is not a substitute for confirming a particular job requirement.
Drawing scale and contours
Supply vector files at 1:1 scale in millimetres. Remove duplicate lines, notes and borders, convert lettering to outlines, and check that the cut contours are closed. Keep the finished part geometry clear. Our drawing preparation guidelines show the checks.
Finish and further fabrication
Explain any finish requirements and additional work the parts need after cutting. Do not assume that an instant cutting quote includes further fabrication or a particular surface finish. Discuss those requirements before ordering so they can be considered with the rest of the project.
Part identification and quantities
Use a clear filename for each different drawing and specify the quantity of each part. Keep repeated parts unnested. For an assembly with several different components, check that the correct drawing version and material specification are attached to each one.
Quote with the requirements in hand
Upload DXF or DWG parts for an instant laser cutting quote. If there are fit, drawing or additional fabrication requirements to discuss, contact Shug. You can also view our work gallery for examples.
