Stainless steel cutting thickness at Shug
Shug laser cuts stainless steel sheet up to 3 mm thick at our Mooroolbark workshop in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs. If you need a small batch of flat parts, a prototype or a repeat order, start with a drawing, the required thickness and the quantity.
The drawing shows the outlines and cut-outs you need. Tell us the stainless steel grade and surface finish if your project requires a particular specification. If you are unsure about a material or design detail, ask before ordering so it can be checked against the job requirements.

Prepare your stainless steel parts for a quote
- Specify the material. Include the stainless steel grade, sheet thickness and any finish requirements.
- Prepare a vector drawing. Use a 1:1 scale in millimetres. We accept AI, EPS, DWG and DXF files, with DXF preferred. A photo or screenshot needs conversion before it can be used as a cutting file.
- Check the cut paths. Remove dimensions, notes, borders and duplicate lines. Close the outlines and convert lettering to outlines. Add bridges where a stencil’s internal pieces must stay attached.
- State the quantity. Give each different part a clear filename and tell us how many you need. Leave repeated parts unnested; we arrange them for cutting.
- Describe any further work. If the part needs bending, welding or a particular edge finish, include that in the enquiry so it can be discussed with the quote.
